In a move to keep their athletes busy and ready for any events, the Bulawayo Athletics Board (BAB) will hold its open trials and also track and field meet which will commence on 21 July at White City Stadium, Bulawayo.

'The meet is organised to keep our athletes on track and busy in preparation for various competitions such as the Zimbabwe National Youth Games, African Games as well as World Championships,' said Manuel Mpofu, chairperson of BAB.

Track events on offer on the day include 100 meters (m), 200 m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 100m huddles, 110m huddles, 3000m, 5000m, 4 by 100m relay. While field events will cater for long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, javelin and high jump.

The board is inviting athletic clubs, schools, colleges as well as individuals to attend the event which will cost $1 per athlete per event for juniors whereas seniors will pay $2 per athlete per event.

Mpofu insisted that even though the event is organised by the BAB, every athlete in and outside the country is welcome with both hands to come and join.

'The event is only organised by the BAB, but it is open to every athlete in Zimbabwe and beyond who has plans to keep in shape and plan our next meet in 2020,' he said

'For those shortlisted for African Games, World Championships and the National Youth games, this is the perfect opportunity to prepare and find weaknesses in order to improve,' Mpofu added.
