By Seth Mangena Highlanders have received a donation of thirty football balls from Dr Solwayo Ngwenya who is the Clinical Director of Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo. The football donation comes shortly after new coach Mark Harrison is said to have requested at least a hundred balls for both training and matches. “I support Highlanders because it was formed by King Lobengula’s sons . This donation comes from my pocket .It’s not a campaign gimmick, I don’t want to hold any office within the club” Dr Solwayo said during the presentation. “This is an investment because football is an economic driver. Everyone is able to pocket something when matches are being hosted at Barbourfields Stadium from touts to City Council. If we are able to play well and beat all other teams the nation will be able to forget its problems for a while and this heals the nation” Dr Ngwenya added. He also said that he donated the balls so that the youths can be empowered and be able to donate something to the club in the near future. “This donation comes at the right time so that the youths can be empowered and abstain from illicit activities such as drug abuse and crime. Highlanders President Ndumiso Gumede thanked Dr Solwayo Ngwenya for his kind gesture. “When Mark Harrison came to Highlanders he told us that he did not want the team manager to come for training with six balls .We contacted a number of individuals and Dr Ngwenya responded positively despite his busy schedule he came along from Mpilo. He was saying the donation is small but this is quite a lot” The former Highlanders Chairman who is now the club’s President said while accepting the donation at the Club’s offices.
