Women's football clubs in the Bulawayo Province are currently involved in a glut of sponsored competitions, a first in many years. So far some clubs have taken part in a tournament that was hosted by the population services International at Pumula and one called Destiny Ins. that was played at Cowdry park T.M grounds.
The Population Services International event at Pumula was won by Ubuntu who pipped second placed Street Set to the top prize. The other participant in the event was Magwegwe High School. The following day on the 16th of August four clubs namely Mpopoma, Street Set, Ubuntu and Magwegwe tussled out in the first round of the Destiny Inc. cup. At the end of the day Mpopoma topped the table followed by Street Set. Third was Magwegwe who finished above Ubuntu. The same clubs are expected to battle out on day two of the event set for the 29th of August in order to determine the club that will lift the 600 pound sterling sponsored competition.
The following day at Nguboyenja four clubs namely Mpopoma, Magwegwe, Street Set and Matebeleland are expected to fight it out in the Pierre's birthday cup competition that is sponsored by a Zimbabwean based in Canada.
