WARRIORS goal minder, Edmore Sibanda has disclosed that he did not choose football as a career but it was the other way round.

Responding to a question from our reporter on why he chose football over rugby, boxing, wrestling or any other sport, Sibanda said football runs in his veins.

'Sometimes it is not a matter of choosing, it's just there in your blood, it chooses you and you are just born into it. So I did not have time to choose it but it just located me, it's in my body,' said the South African based goalminder.

Born in 1987 in Mvuma Zimbabwe, Sibanda said he has played football for as long as he can remember, he started playing professionally for Gweru based outfit Chapungu United before spending nine years with one of the biggest clubs in the country, Caps United. The Green Machine loaned him to Gunners in 2015 before they parted ways with the freekick taking goalkeeper in 2017.

'Zi Keeper' as he is affectionately known by Zimbabwean soccer lovers is currently a free agent after his contract with South African National First Division side Witbank Spurs expired at the end of the season.

'My first call up to the warriors squad was a bit scary, it was way back in 2007 and I was picked along side Energy Murambadoro and Tapuwa Kapini, I got sleepless nights because Iknew I was competing with big names in goalkeeping,' said Sibanda.

Ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations opener against Egypt, Zi Keeper had this to say,

'The Pharahos are seasoned campaigners, we must give them respect but not fear them. We are going to be prepared for them and we will not take any chances, they are a good side and so are we.

The Warriors face Egypt in the Afcon opener tomorrow at 21:00 CAT before they face other group opponents Uganda and DRC on 26 and 30 June respectively.
