The International Handball Federation Challenge trophy commenced today in Lusaka, Zambia with 10 countries battling for the African Youth and Junior Championships qualification spot.

According to Edson Chiworodza, the Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Handball Federation, 28 ladies are representing the country and the tournament features under 17 Junior Women Championships and the under 20 Youth Women Championships.

'This is a qualifying tournament of the Africa Handball Junior Women Championships and also Africa Handball Youth Women Championships to be held in Niger in September this year, said Chiworodza.

In the opening group stages, Zimbabwe lost both their games against Zambia and Madagascar 30-16 and 34-23 respectively.

'This is not a good start for Zimbabwe but hopefully we hope they will do better in the next games as they have just started their group matches today,' Chiworodza added.
