Former ZIFA education officer Brian Moyo reckons Zimbabwe should quickly move towards introducing video assistant referees (V.A.R) with the rising cases of alleged match officiating incompetence. Moyo who is a former Highlanders executive member told Next Level Sport that the only way to kill a strong chorus of boos against certain referees being advanced by supporters, the media and coaches is to introduce technology assisted match officiating. "Sometimes those that cry about poor refereeing are the losing sides, but again the referees have also not been up to scratch, so the only way out of this argument is to introduce V.A.R", Moyo told Next Level on the back of recent disapprovals to the work ethics of some local referees.

Alleged poor match officiating has been noted in various matches since the 2019 season kicked off with the Highlanders versus Caps United match in week 2 hogging most of the limelight. The V.A.R that Brian Moyo believes can solve Zimbabwe's refereeing problems reviews decisions made by the head referee with the use of video footage and a headset for communication. In 2018, the V.A.R.S were written into the laws of the game by the International football association board (C.I.F.A.B) following trials in Major competitions
