Liverpool inspires Ajax

Newly promoted ZIFA Southern Region Division One League side, Ajax Hotspurs is inspired by UEFA Champions League current title holders, Liverpool according to the team’s technical manager, Nkosilathi “Gattuso” Nkomo.
The Mpopoma based club got promotion to the Southern Region Division One League after a fruitful campaign last season that saw them break the record by clinching the Division Two League title without tasting defeat.
“In Europe I am a Chelsea fan but Liverpool inspired me with their youngsters and many players from the team performed well this season. My players were highly motivated by Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp and their zeal and “never give up” spirit that made them win the UEFA Champions League and losing the PSL title with just one point behind Manchester City,” said Nkomo.
The Mpopoma based outfit’s main objective is fighting to remain in the league come next season but they are also expecting more than that. They are currently seated on position nine having played eight games, winning three, settling for two stalemates and losing another three. They have registered eleven points so far, ten adrift from current log leaders Bulawayo City however Hotspurs have a game in hand
‘Our main target if fighting relegation and top four is just a bonus for us, we are in a tough league as new kids on the block and we have to fight till the end,’ Nkomo said
Nkomo, a former footballer himself who played for Quelaton, FC Windermere, Railstars and a junior of Ernest Maphepha Sibanda owned Umthala Football club also said,
‘We have got young talented players who might go for trials abroad, the likes of ever green right back Gabriel Dlodlo and speedy skilful striker, Nhlanhla ‘Mawi’ Phiri who has scored four goals in three games.
Gattuso also said the club is eyeing to be part of the Premier Soccer League in three seasons to come.
Teams like Hwange, Botswana Railways Highlanders are some of the teams that have shown interest in some of the talent at Ajax Hotspurs.’
