Bulawayo athlete dreams big

A BULAWAYO sprinter, Ngonidzashe Makusha has revealed that he is dreaming of representing the country in the upcoming Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan next year.

Makusha is a 25 year old 100 meters and 200 meters sprinter who is training with Successful Strides club in Bulawayo.

He started his career in 2016.

'My dream is to qualify for World Championships and the upcoming Olympic Games. I would love to make my country and family proud,' Makusha told our reporter.

In June this year, the 25 year old claimed gold in both 100 and 200 meters at the Southern Region Games held in Mauritius.

Suppose Makusha makes it to the Olympics, he will possibly compete against one of the greatest sprinters in the world, the likes of Justin Gatlin from the United States and Jamaican Yohan Blake.

'It will be a great honour to face the likes of Gatlin and other great athletes because they are the people whom I look up to. It will really be a dream come true racing with some of the guys I grew up watching on television,' Makusha added.

Makusha made his international debut in 2016 when he competed in the African Senior Championships held in Durban, South Africa. The following year, he took part in the Southern Region Games that were held in Harare.

Last year he was in Nigeria for yet another edition of the African Senior Championships.

This year he was part of the relay team which travelled to Yokohama, Japan for the World Relay Championships
