Prince Edward High School basketball team had no other intentions besides finishing tops in this year's edition of the annual Top Schools basketball tournament which was held in Victoria Falls this past weekend.
The team's coach, Andrew Chitauro had drilled the winning spirit into his boys weeks before the nation's premier school basketball event that was held in Mosi-oa-Tunya High School.
‘We went to Victoria Falls with one target, that we were not going to accept any other position besides number one.’
‘We had an agreement with the players that any other result was a failure. Two seasons ago we probably had the strongest team on paper, but we were complacent,’ Chitauro said.
Prince Edward beat Matabeleland South's sole representatives in the tournament, Cyrene Boys High 49-29 in the finals to clinch top spot with the champions’ Tendai Tapera being awarded the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
‘This time we were prepared physically and mentally, we knew we had to work hard to achieve and we did that by blowing off every opponent coming our way. We are happy as a school and for the boys who worked so hard in training this time around,’ Chitauro added.
