BLOEMFONTEIN Celtic and Warriors defender, Ronald Tapiwa Pfumbidzai, revealed that being called up for the Warriors squad was a dream come true for him as they are many other players in the country who can fill up the position.

'I started representing Zimbabwe when I was a bit young, I could not believe it, from nowhere I was playing for the national team. We have a lot of players in Zimbabwe and to be selected among those few you just have to thank God,' said Pfumbidzai in an interview.

On his thoughts about the Africa Cup of Nations opener against tournament hosts Egypt, the former Caps United man said.

'I think it is going to be a tough game, but I think we just have to go in there with a positive mind because we are professionals as they also are professionals. Yes they are probably playing in 'better leagues' than us but in soccer judgments come after the final whistle is blown. If we are to play our normal game without any pressure, we will get a good result,' said the former Kepekepe left back.

Pfumbidzai also praised coach Sunday Chidzambwa by labeling him a great coach who does not shout at players and give them unnecessary pressure.

Pfumbidzai started playing professionally in 2011 at the age of 17, his senior team career started at Hippo Valley before joining Caps United. Kepekepe then loaned him to Danish outfit Hobro IK before selling him to South African Premier Soccer League side Bloemfontein Celtic.

'Every one wishes to play for one of the three big teams in Zimbabwe (Caps United, Highlanders and Dynamos), so if you get that chance you grab it with both hands. I grew up supporting Caps United and I respect that team, I always wish them well,'

'Playing in the Harare derby (Dynamos-Caps United game) has some good and bad memories. If you lose, you don't go around town freely but if you win like we did when we clinched the 2016 premiership title it was like we had won the world cup,' added Pfumbidzai.

Pfumbidzai also encouraged aspiring footballers to stay away from drugs and respect their parents and elders.
